A less formal Oscar viewing option: huddling with Richard Roeper and Billy Dec for a night of pork sliders, parmesan truffle popcorn, Kir Royals and a chance to best them in a betting pool. You do possess an uncanny record when it comes to guessing the winner for best sound mixing.
“High fashion, high heels and high hopes kicked off the 2nd Annual Oscars Viewing Party at Rockit Bar and Grill last night. This party was the perfect way to celebrate the 84th Annual Academy Awards in Chicago. Co-hosts of the evening were, film critic Richard Roeper and Billy Dec, the CEO/Founder of Rockit Ranch Productions.
In attendance were many well-known folks including former Chicago Bears player Jerry Azumah, The Amazing Race winners Ernie Halvorson & Cindy Chiang, Ed Swiderski from The Bachelorette, Tim Smithe from Walter E. Smithe Custom Furniture, holisitc health expert and author, Karyn Calabrese and hundreds of other Oscar-loving Chicagoans.
The event flowed perfectly, just like many of the beautifully flowing dresses on the red carpet. This soiree took place on the third floor of Rockit Bar. Before the show began you could place your own ballot predicitions against Roeper and Dec to win fabulous prizes. here was an extensive raffle that included lovely prizes like an autographed pennant from Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose, a Blackhawks Hockey Stick autographed by the team and a pair of roundtrip tickets valid for travel from the US to Europe, Central America or the Carribean from United Airlines. Believe it or not, former Bears player Jerry Azumah won the airline tickets.
Throughout the telecast, Roeper and Dec offered commentary about the show. Roeper really wished that the winners could have spoken more in their speeches. During commercial breaks Dec would stand on top of a pool table to announce winners of all the raffle prizes.
The appealing appetizers being passed around were Butternut Squash Soup Shots, Rockcorn Shrimp, Miniature Black Angus Burgers, to name a few, followed by Flirtinis and Kir Royal beverages.
On top of all the glitz and glamour, came generosity. A portion of the night’s proceeds were given to After School Matters, a non-profit organization that provides teens with opportunities to discover their potential and find their path to a meaningful life.
I’d like to thank Rockit Ranch Productions for inviting me out to their Oscars Viewing Party and for their splendid hospitality.”
